Buffalo Springfield - "For What It's Worth"

10/26/2013

There is something truly classic and awesome about this song. I feel good every time it's on, like it's fitting for every situation because it's fitting for the world at any moment. Go figure, I should've been born in 1950.

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speakin' their minds
A gettin' so much resistance from behind

Time we stop, hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down

Billy Currington - "Good Directions"

I just wanted something fun today. Of course, Pandora started giving me every thought-provoking lyric-filled song it could find. Then Mr. Currington came on and I was bopping in my seat along to his sweet words of happiness. Ahh, the country.

She went way up yonder past the caution light
Don't know why, but somethin' felt right
When she stopped in and asked Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea
Mama gave her a big 'ol glass and sent her right back here to me

Thank God for good directions... and turnip greens

Nickelback - "How You Remind Me"

I sincerely don't have much against Nickelback at all. While yes, I agree that 80% of their songs sound exactly the same, they're not all completely awful. In fact, the world seemed think they were so great in 2002, that this song was #1. Strange, considering this is definitely one of their worst in my view, but true.

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down,
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream "are we having fun yet?"

A Great Big World - "This Is The New Year"

Yes, I only know about this song from "Glee."

And yes, I want to dance around the subway when it pumped through my headphones.

And yes, yes, it makes me optimistic for life. Thanks guys. =)

Say everything you've always wanted
Be not afraid of who you really are
'Cause in the end we have each other
And that's at least one thing worth living for
And I will give the world to you

A million suns that shine upon me
A million eyes you are the brightest blue
Let's tear the walls down that divide us
And build a statue strong enough for two

3 Doors Down - "Kryptonite"

Why? Why not?

Memories of a friend running down the street with a towel for a cape and a pot and wooden spoon, as we all sang this, cheering her on. Ha, good times!
You called me strong, you called me weak,
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted all the times
I never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head,
If not for me then you'd be dead
I picked you up and put you back on solid ground

If I go crazy then will you still
Call me Superman
If I’m alive and well,
Will you be there a-holding my hand
I’ll keep you by my side

"Take Me or Leave Me" from "Rent"

Forever and always my favorite Broadway show, sometimes I get on "Rent" kicks in the car, and today was one of them. I always forget how damn good it feels so sing this music. This particular song is just plain fun, and was always a great go-to duet back in the day. Hope you loose it just as much as I do!

"There will always be women in rubber flirting with me!"
A tiger in a cage
Can never see the sun
This diva needs her stage
Baby, let's have fun!

You are the one I choose
Folks would kill to fill your shoes
You love the limelight too, now baby

So be mine
And don't waste my time
Cryin', "Oh Honeybear
Are you still my, my, my baby?"
(Don't you dare!)

Take me for what I am
Who I was meant to be
And if you give a damn
Take me baby or leave me

Celine Dion - "Ave Maria"

This time last year we were making funeral arrangements for my grandmother. I'm still in disbelief every time I walk into my aunt's house and she's not sitting there in the kitchen, reading the same book for the 5th time because she didn't remember she'd finished it.

Holidays have gone by, seats have been re-arranged, and prayers especially have been sent up asking for inner peace and good things in life. I walk terrified in this life, and know that somehow, in-between jitterbug dance sessions up in heaven, she and my grandfather are amongst the angels holding me up.

I miss you Mema.

Ave Maria, gratia plena.
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
Et benedictus
Et benedictus fructus ventris,
Ventris tui, Jesus.
Ave Maria.

Hugo - "99 Problems"

So on my first day of unemployment, I am sitting here catching up on television shows as I plot my next move. I watched the Pilot of "Blacklist" and, aside from it being an interesting show that I'd continue watching, they used a few cool sounding songs. I heard a familiar verse going on and then the line "I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one." (And no, there was no bleep or silencing anywhere in that sentence.) Hell yeah - this is such a cool, soulful version of this song. Take a listen and love!

Like broken glass under my feet
I could lose my mind in this heat
Looking for the prize but I don’t want blood
I order one drink then I drink the flood
Well, you can come inside but your friends can’t come
99 problems and a bitch ain’t one

If you're having girl problems I feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems and a bitch ain’t one

"My New Philosophy" from "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown"

I don't know why, aside from love of this musical, but this song gets stuck in my head every once in a while. It's so adorable and almost makes you think just enough. The whole musical is a featuring of some of the best characters cartoons have ever had to offer, with some really incredible and sweet music. I've seen it a handful of times on stage, all local productions, and never once have I been let down. Also, I may or may not dream of playing this little blonde.
[SALLY]
No!! I like it! "No!" That's a good philosophy.
"No!" "No!" "No!"
[SCHROEDER]
That's you new philosophy, huh?
[SALLY]
Yes. I mean-- "No!"
Just like a bust bee
Each new philosophy
Can fly from tree to tree and keep me moving
When life's a dizzy maze
On alternating days
I choose a different phrase-
[SCHROEDER]
Your new philosophy?
[SALLY]
My new philosophy!
