Marillion - "An Accidental Man"

4/23/2014

I can dig a good rock song, and that's exactly what was suggested to me on this particular Wednesday. Bryce, another workmate, sent over this recommendation earlier today, and I really am starting to wonder how Marillion has completely flown under my radar throughout my life. This is definitely the kind of progressive rock I can get into.

Anywhos, random fact - the original name was Simarillion, as in the title of the Tolkien novel I've never been able to force myself through. The more you know... Gotta love these finds!

It's not that I don't love you
It's just I can't connect
'Cause I was taught from much too young
To shine and not reflect

Rachele Lynae - "Sometimes You Fly"

Download the song!
Download the WHOLE ALBUM!!
A long time in the making, Rachele Lynae is dropping her debut album today!! Celebrate with me and check it out as soon as you can. You thought the singles and the party pack were good? This is an incredible collection of great music applicable for anything you need it for. Rachele goes from a country party girl to a heartbroken yet strong woman, belting out a sore hurt that'll reach you like nothing else. Her quiet voice is just as powerful, and the musical backing is really incredibly done. Kudos to the whole band and team for this project, and best to Rachele and this exciting time!

Could this be me, falling in love
Letting my guard down, dropping my gloves
Thinking just one time maybe
You could be the one to save me
Could you be just another regret
Or maybe my best thing yet
I won't know if I don't try
Sometimes you fall
Sometimes you fly

"On My Way" from "Violet the Musical"

Per our amazing Musical Theatre editor: "In honor of violet's broadway opening last night! frontrunner for best revival after virtual raves across the board.

One of my favorite musical theater songs - period."

Before another sunrise wakes me
Before another night is gone
I'll find out where this highway takes me
You know I gotta travel on
Left my troubles all behind me
Back there when I climbed on board
Jordan river's where you'll find me
It's wide, but not too wide to ford
And as I'm going along
I carry with me
Promises that can't go wrong

Lee Brice - "Hard to Love"

I like Lee Brice and I like this song a lot. It's a song of honesty and humility, and you just don't see that in an appealing way in many songs that are self-deprecating. Lee's got a slightly non-Country sound which is sort of nice, even if it's just this one song. I dig it and hope y'all do to!

Sometimes I drink too much, sometimes I test your trust,
Sometimes I don't know why you stay with me.

I'm hard to love, hard to love,
No, I don't make it easy,
I couldn't do it if I stood where you stood.
I'm hard to love, hard to love,
You say that you need me,
I don't deserve it but I love that you love me, good.

Wilson Phillips - "Hold On"

We've reached the beginning of the 90's as I move backwards for these throwbacks, and today we get the makes-you-think song of 1990. This song has had absolutely amazing staying power throughout the years, and I dare you to find someone who doesn't know that catchy chorus. I don't want to call it a feel-good song, because I don't really think it's that. It's a call for change, but whether or not you're actually feeling great because of it at the end is really up to you.

You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin' your worries pass you by
Don't you think it's worth your time
To change your mind?

Jhene Aiko feat. Childish Gambino - "Bed Peace"

One of my faves at work here in NYC, Mr. Low, picked today's song. It's completely something new to me, and seems to fit the Wednesday vibe perfectly. As he put it, "This song is for the hippie in all of us. Trading in our days of adult responsibility for staying home, blazing up, and making love."

The mood of this song is just so perfect for the words. It's rare to find a song that fits all its pieces together in such a perfect way, with each one complimenting the others. Transcendence
, you're sweet.

if i had it my way, I’d roll out of bed say bout 2:30 mid-day . hit the blunt then hit you up

The Black Hollies - "Wake Me When It's Over"

In today's edition of New Music Tuesday, I want to share a band that's well, not new, but new this year to me. I have the honor of actually knowing a couple of the members, and while I haven't seen them perform live yet, I listened to a live radio performance a few weeks back, and it was really awesome! The band's got a sound I think a lot of you out there will dig, with some kind of punk psychedelic vibe happening. They're a Jersey rock band unlike anything you've been into before, and I can't wait to sit and do a full album review here! Go on and take a listen, and grove/headbang along with the music.

"One Hundred Easy Ways" from "Wonderful Town"

You have Jonathan to thank for this silly fun choice. I love having a musical theatre editor, even when he tells me his reasoning was "in honor of [his] weekend."

He takes you to a baseball game
You sit knee to knee
He says, "The next man up at bat will bunt, you'll see"
Don't say, "Ooh, what's a bunt? This game's too hard for little me"

Just say,"Blunt? Are you nuts? With one out, two men on base
And a left-handed batter coming up, you'll walk right into a triple play
The same as the fifth game of the world series in 1923"
That's a sure way to lose a man

Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris"

Ah Concert days, you are my favorite. Heading home early today to be there in time for a Goo Goo Dolls concert tonight in South Jersey, and very excited for it. =)

In picking a song today, I had a definite moment of "how have I not used this one??" thought. This is the song my dog is named after for gods sake!

Hope everyone out there gets to enjoy good music this weekend. Have a great Friday!
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive

Bryan Adams - "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

1991's hit, a sappy love song. Gotta love it.

So let's see what interesting info I can serve up here... go interwebs go!

Okay, unknown fact: this was on the soundtrack for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and won a Grammy for being written specifically for that. Maybe people hip to the music in 1991 knew that, but that's news to me.

Also, I enjoy the Brandy version more. =X

Look into your heart, you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am, take my life
I would give it all, I would sacrifice

Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it, there's nothin' I want more
You know it's true
Everything I do, I do it for you, oh yeah
