Moon Taxi - "Make Your Mind Up"

Welcome to New Music Friday! The music community has moved to a 'global release day' of Fridays instead of breaking it up differently for different regions (the US, for instance, would release on Tuesdays historically, and Europe on another day). It's an understandable change given how we consume music online so frequently. It helps to curb leaks before the release date. On a personal level, it makes my Tuesdays boring, but I like that no one's spoiling the music in advance for me.

Spotify has, thus, moved it's new music playlist to a Friday release as well. This week I opened it to see Moon Taxi, a band I followed in college, near the top of the playlist! Y'all have experienced my excitement for personal connections with the folks in the bands, so you can understand why I've got to share this.

So, go on, check out this poppy little tune. It's a good mover to get the day rolling.

Kelly Clarkson - "Invincible"

Hey listeners out there - miss me? I've been a little MIA for... well, months now. Maybe even since before my birthday.

I'll share why, because you all are friends, and I enjoy baring my soul here.

My mother passed away in April. The months leading up were both good and awful, but clearly my focus was pulled.

She was my light, my rock, my roll, my everything. My mom meant and continues to mean the absolute world to me. But music was tough to handle in this time. It had this extreme ability to lighten my load and make it better, or bring me so far down I wanted to drive off the road.

Anywhos, I'm sure I'll have much more to say on this matter as we go on. But I wanted to get back here and share the thing that, no matter where it takes me, I love.

Today I flipped over this quotes book my mom got me a while back and it said "We all need someone who gives us the courage to be who we're meant to be." I heard this new song off Kelly's album the week it was released (before it became her latest single) and immediately felt powerful again. My mom raised me to be so strong and fight for life and what I want. So I post this, one the three month anniversary of her death, to celebrate her gift.
Beat down on me, beat down like a waterfall
Cause I can take on so much more than I had ever dreamed
So beat down on me, beat down like a waterfall
Cause baby, I am ready to be free

Now I am invincible
No, I ain't a scared little girl no more
