| A very happy 29th birthday to Zac Hanson! Here's the first song we heard him solo on (not counting that one line everyone screams out in concerts during "Where's The Love?"). So young, so very, very young. |

New feature this year! I have this little sentence to the side --> "Because songs define our lives." So these are the songs that defines 2013, in my humble opinion. I certainly welcome added opinions, provided you remember this is a totally limited list made on first instincts! I already am kicking myself for leaving off more Luke Bryan, Arcade Fire, PTX, and Macklemore. There's P!nk songs that inexplicably didn't make this list, and I gotta say - I grew to adore "Wrecking Ball." But they're not here. This is what hit the musical heart most this year. However, I do know how much good music is out there, and please comment and share more, because we need to hear it all! If you want to take a listen to a mix of all these tracks, head over the Spotify and follow the 2013 - Songs of the Year Playlist!! Before we get to the top 10, let's give a nod to some of the honorable mentions. And since I only have so much time left this year, they're in alpha order (you don't want me trying to rank them all. I still have a job, yah know). Then we'll get down to business! All right! Time for the top 10!!
That's it folks! Hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed putting it together in between getting ready for New Year's Eve. Now I'm off to party it out downstairs. Best to you and yours, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! <3 J-Hawke
If I were going out tonight, this would be a fun dance-around-my-room and get ready song. Don't believe me? LISTEN TO IT!! =) Guys, I failed you this week. I said it would be all Hanson, and I haven't posted a dang thing. Well, never fear - because we've got time AND an entire album to celebrate! Today is release day for "The Anthem" - Hanson's 6th Studio album. Well, actually way past 6th if you include "Boomerang," "MMMBop," "Three Car Garage," and "Snowed In." But sure, 6th. Last night myself and a few hundred of my closest NYC Hanson fans celebrated their 21st Birthday - as a band. Let me tell all of you doubters - they still have it, big time. They kept rocking for a solid two hours, and it was incredible. They started the night, cleverly enough, by playing the opening track to each CD they've released - well, all of the 6 major ones at least. It was like turning on each CD and launching in to the Hanson goodness. Ahhhh. Anywhos, it was awesome. And tonight is the album release party where they'll (hopefully) play the entire new album from front to back. And I'll hopefully get there in time to see it. And continue to loose my voice because wow did I not have a voice after last night. This is "Scream and Be Free" - a Zac fronted song that they played last night that got to me right away. It may mean nothing at all, but man did I love the idea of letting go.
How this song has been out for a few weeks and not been featured is beyond me. I'm slightly disappointed in myself or dropping the ball on that one. Alas, here it is, finally - Hanson's latest single. While I could do without the bowties, gentlemen, I love the sound. It's a nice combo of their funk/soul approach from "Shout It Out" and their amazing old school rock sound a la "Underneath" and "This Time Around." Really excited for this new album! |
